Have your clients navigate the backend with custom quick links.  For any given role (user group) declare one or more groups of quicklinks.  Users who belong to that role (user group) will see a module of those links in their dashboard. Each quick link can specify  a short title, link, and an optional icon.  You can further restrict who sees a link by setting the user group or access level on both the the link and the module.
